Labelling on the Multiport Valve (MPV) of sand filters is never very clear so often customers contact me to ask me which way they should install their MPV as the instructions are not very clear.

On your filter, there will be a label that will indicate something like Pump and Return on the outlets. The pump means you plumb from your pool pump into that fitting and the return means you plumb from that into the return line, which most often has a salt chlorinator cell housing on it.
