The Astral XC 150C Compact is a single-element cartridge filter. At 800mm tall, it’s the lower height version of the XC 150, made for equipment areas where height is limited.
There’s no backwashing, and cleaning the element uses around 100 litres of water instead of the thousands of litres a sand or glass filter uses when backwashing.

The replacement for the Astral ZX 150
The XC range has replaced Astral’s ZX cartridge filters. If your ZX 150 has cracked or worn out, the XC 150C Compact is the closest match. It takes the same SP78098 cartridge element as the ZX 150, so any spare elements you already have will fit, and you can keep buying the same element in future.
Please note that the plumbing connections on the XC range are not the same as on the old ZX filters. When you replace a ZX with an XC, some changes to the plumbing will need to be made. Send us a photo of your current setup and we can let you know what’s involved.

Compact or standard – which XC 150 do you need?
The XC 150 comes in two heights. Both have the same 14m² filter area and the same flow rate, so they filter the same. The difference is the height and the cartridge element they take.

Frequently asked questions
Does the XC 150C Compact replace the Astral ZX 150?
Yes. The XC range has replaced the ZX range, and the XC 150C Compact is the closest match to the ZX 150. It takes the same SP78098 element. The plumbing is different on the XC, so some changes will need to be made when you swap it over.
Will my old ZX 150 cartridge fit the XC 150C Compact?
Yes. The XC 150C Compact uses the same SP78098 element as the ZX 150, so any spares you have won’t go to waste.
How much taller is it than my ZX 150?
The XC 150C Compact is 800mm tall, which is 90mm taller than the ZX 150 at 710mm. Before you buy, measure the space above your current filter, especially if it sits under a bench, deck or equipment cover.
What’s the difference between the XC 150C Compact and the XC 150 Standard?
They filter the same, with the same 14m² filter area and 445 litres per minute flow rate. The compact is 800mm tall and the standard is 990mm. They also take different elements – SP78098 for the compact and SP78059 for the standard.
Do I need to backwash the XC 150C Compact?
No. Cartridge filters don’t backwash. You take the element out and hose it clean, which uses around 100 litres of water.
How fine does it filter?
The pleated element filters down to 10–20 microns, which is finer than a standard sand filter.
What size pump suits it?
The XC 150C Compact suits pumps from 750W to 1500W (roughly 1hp to 2hp). If you’re not sure about your pump, send us a photo of the label and we can check it for you.
What size pool does it suit?
Astral rates it to turn over up to about 160,000 litres in 6 hours, so it suits most backyard pools. Give us your pool size and we’ll check it for you.
What warranty does it come with?
The XC 150C Compact comes with a 5 year warranty. The filter element, o-rings and gasket seals are covered for 1 year, as these are parts that wear with normal use.
