The Astral XC 150 is a single-element cartridge filter with Astral’s cyclonic filtration, which spins debris to the outside of the filter so the element clogs less and lasts longer. There’s no backwashing, and cleaning the element uses around 100 litres of water instead of the thousands of litres a sand or glass filter uses when backwashing.

We stock the XC 150 in store at our shop at 211 Stirling Hwy, Claremont, and we’re open 7 days a week, 9am to 5pm.

Replacement cartridge elements

Model Replacement element Same element as a ZX model?
XC 150 Standard SP78059 No
XC 150C Compact SP78098 Yes – same as the ZX 150

If you’re replacing an old ZX 150, the XC 150C Compact takes the same SP78098 element. Any spare ZX 150 elements you already have will fit, and you can keep buying the same element in future. The XC 150 Standard takes its own taller element (SP78059), which doesn’t fit the ZX range.

Please note that the plumbing connections on the XC range are not the same as on the old ZX filters. When you replace a ZX with an XC, some changes to the plumbing will need to be made. Send us a photo of your current setup and we can let you know what’s involved.

FAQ

Does the XC 150 replace the Astral ZX 150?

Yes. The XC range has replaced the ZX range. If your ZX 150 needs replacing, the XC 150C Compact is the closest match, as it takes the same SP78098 element. The plumbing is different on the XC, so some changes will need to be made when you swap it over.

Will my old ZX 150 cartridge fit the XC 150?

It will fit the XC 150C Compact, which uses the same SP78098 element as the ZX 150. It won’t fit the XC 150 Standard, which takes a taller SP78059 element.

I’m replacing a ZX 150. Which XC 150 should I choose?

The XC 150C Compact is usually the closest match. It’s a similar height to the ZX 150 and takes the same element, so any spares you have won’t go to waste. If you have more height available, the XC 150 Standard is also an option, but it takes a different element. Either way, the plumbing on the XC is not the same as the ZX, so some changes will need to be made. Send us a photo of your setup and we can let you know what’s involved.

What’s the difference between the XC 150 and XC 150C?

The XC 150C is the compact version. It’s 800mm tall instead of 990mm, but it has the same 14m² filter area and flow rate. It suits equipment areas where height is limited.

Do I need to backwash the XC 150?

No. Cartridge filters don’t backwash. You take the element out and hose it clean, which uses around 100 litres of water.

How fine does it filter?

The pleated element filters down to 10–20 microns, which is finer than a standard sand filter.

What size pump suits the XC 150?

The XC 150 suits pumps from 750W to 1500W (roughly 1hp to 2hp). If you’re not sure about your pump and you live in Western Australia, send us a photo of the label and we can check it for you.

Using the how to measure diagram, please provide the size of your pool in metres, please provide Pool Width (A) and Pool Length (B) in metres
Please include total length (B) in metres and total width (A) in metres if you have not listed it below the diagram
Does your pool have a step? Please note if your step is at the end of the pool and not on the side, you need to include it in the overall length of the pool as they cannot add to the length of the blanket for a step, only the width*
If your pool has a step is it on the RHS or LHS when looking from the shallow end of the pool?
What cover shall we quote you on? Note the thickest 525 micron covers do last longer*
If you need a quote on a roller, which roller shall we quote? If you choose one that does not suit the size of your pool, we will quote the closest option.*

If you already have a roller, do you need the attachment kit (refit kit) to reattach your new blanket to your existing roller? Please note if you are ordering a roller it will come with an attachment kit included*
If you already have a roller, do you need an over cover to protect the blanket once rolled up. You will likely already have one, but some customers find it has worn out so they need a new one to protect their new blanket. If you need an over cover we need to know the length of the roller tube in metres. Please note if you are ordering a roller it will come with an over cover included.*
